The Morongo Basin Cultural Arts Council is proud to announce a group show for the Open Studio Art Tours at A Roadside Attraction in 29 Palms (adjacent to Joshua Tree). The show, Art Tours Collective, will include one piece from each of the 102 Art Tours locations this year. Visitors and locals will be able to see a sampling of all of the participants art in person as well as online at ArtTours2007.com. This will also be a featured location on the Art Tours for visitors to pick up a program. The show will run through November 17th.

Gallery hours are from 10am-5pm daily, closed Sundays. Located at 69197 Hwy. 62 in Twentynine Palms.

An incredibly diverse show… don’t miss it!

The crescent moon rose over Joshua Tree heralding the first Gallery Crawl. Sheri Elf played on the car radio, the last song of the Saturday Night Local Talent Showcase on Z107.7, as we pulled into the last parking spot beside
TRUE WORLD GALLERY. Talk about Local Talent: with thirteen area artists skimmed from the desert, like cream from milk, owners George and Bonnie Kopp have served up a generous scoop of the Mojave scene. The flavors ranged from Tina Bluefield’s jewel-like landscapes to Cathy Allen’s smokey sentinels, Bobby Furst’s conjugal contraption to Mary Emminger’s colorful bursts of love.
Moving on Westward, the next stop was The RED ARROW GALLERY where large emotions were conveyed on the small canvases of Sariah Ha, in another room stitches of multicolored thread wove a labyrinth of webs on fabric and shared the walls with local landscapes and in the back, born of graffiti but raised to another level, the collaborative art of Skies Falling Kollective. A combination of stencil, spray paint, latex and found objects, these two pieces were a tart slice of edgy imagery.
Last stop, WINDWALKERS, which was transformed into a gallery, seemingly overnight. Owners Abe and JR have worked wonders with their space, moving all the store stock next door, painting the walls with beautiful Moab Mud and then choosing just the right art to complement the metamophisis. The sepia nudes looked carved from earth itself.
What a night for Joshua Tree, one to be repeated we hope!

Twilight Madness, a.k.a. Charlie Ohnsted, discovered the art of taking Polaroid pictures just as spontaneously as she connected with the used-camera’s immediate satisfaction for only $5 at the Angel View Thrift. As Twilight Madness ventured out to the ‘07 Joshua Tree Music Festival for a weekend filled with music, eating, dancing, drinking, bicycling, and making new friends by capturing a few candid Polaroids, she discovered another art form besides her exquisite cooking. Friday, September 7th 5-8 pm
“Desert Duos,” the new show at the True World Gallery, will open on Friday, September 7th with an artists’ reception from 5-8 p.m. Thirteen local artists will exhibit two pieces related either by medium, subject or technique. A wide range of artistic vision will be represented, including painting, sculpture, photography, assemblage, tile work, and video. True World Gallery is located at 61740 Hwy 62, across from Wind Walkers in Joshua Tree. Call 366-2300 for more information. The gallery will also stay open late on Saturday, September 15th, in conjunction with the Red Arrow Gallery and Wind Walkers, for downtown Joshua Tree’s first “gallery crawl”. The Morongo Basin Cultural Arts Council presents the fall line up of MBCAC artist’s Brian Baltzer and Robert Arnett at the 29 Palms Inn, located at the Oasis of Mara. The work of each artist graces the walls of the bar and dining area of this popular desert destination. Brian Baltzer’s expressive and abstract ideas, shapes, colors, and objects reflect his finds in the Southern California deserts, streets and trails. Recently, Brian has expanded his repertoire including digital photographs taken in the desert. These photos are uniquely colored and textured rock formations, desert lichen, and rolled shot up old rusty car bodies and car parts

Bob Arnett paints plein air and in his studios, his passion is in painting the abandoned homesteads that dot the area around our home. It’s as though his paintings make the homesteads come alive once again. Join locals and visitors at the 29 Palms Inn to admire the colorful and expressive works of these two local artists. Fundraiser Saturday, September 8th

These three tortoises by Mikal Winn, Luther Broome and Mike Smiley.
Fifty-two local and regional artists have joined with Hospice of Morongo Basin to produce artistically designed ceramic tortoises to be auctioned at the 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner and Benefit Drawing. The Reverse Raffle and Silent Auction fundraiser will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2007 and the grand prize for the reverse raffle is $4,000. The designer tortoises will be auctioned at the Saturday evening event, which is located at the Joshua Tree Community Center. Tickets are available at the Hospice office and the cost for the gala event is $100 and includes dinner for TWO. The buffet dinner is a Hawaiian Luau presented by Hero’s Catering. If you are an art lover or a tortoise collector, you do not want to miss this unique event. Only 200 tickets are sold! The proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the Hospice Volunteer Programs. Hospice of Morongo Basin provides essential services to the terminally ill and to the bereaved in our communities and charges no fees to the patients, the families or clients.

August 29th – September 23rd

The 29 Palms Art Gallery opened its fall exhibition season on August 29th with a survey of desert impressions by more than 40 artists, according to show curator Audrey Gillick. Desert Diversity II, following a popular opening two years ago, the theme encourages selected painters, sculptors, and photographers to express freely their individual takes on the desert. The gallery will host an artists’ reception on Sunday, September 2nd from 12-3pm, to which the public is invited.
